One year freelance! đ It’s been a year since I took the plunge into the exciting (and slightly terrifying) world of freelance writing.
This isn’t a “Top 10 Things I Wish I’d Known” â because, frankly, I’m still figuring things out. It is a reflection on 365+ days of caffeine, occasional moments of euphoria, and a whole lot of learning.
From the initial “what have I done?” moments, to the joy of landing dream clients and remembering that, oh yeah, I’m actually good at this, it’s been an incredible journey.
The perks? Choosing my own hours (priceless as a mum of two â send ALL the coffee!). The challenges? Juggling it all (and by juggling, I mean sometimes dropping a ball or two). The rewards? Working on incredible projects, like the campaign to get AodhĂĄn O’RiordĂĄin elected as an MEP, partnering with amazing organisations like UNICEF, Merchants Quay Ireland and LauraLynn Children’s Hospice.
And, of course, the joy of continuing to collaborate with the brilliant people I worked alongside for 10 years at Ask Direct. It’s been fantastic to maintain those connections and work on exciting new projects together. And, finally, making time for my creative writing â because, yes, I do have other stories to tell.
Freelancing isn’t all sunshine and rainbows (though the walks on the beach are a definite plus). I miss the office craic, after-work drinks (thanks covid) and the camaraderie of a team. But the dream of writing? That’s alive and kicking, and that’s what fuels this exciting adventure.
So, if you’re looking for a copywriter who’s passionate about what they do while having fun along the way, please get in touch! I’d be delighted to hear from you.
But for now, because it’s Friday, I’m logging off to enjoy my family and a large glass of something. Not necessarily in that order. Cheers to year two â may it be even better!
